Day 2

Today was a very fun day! We got to sleep in which was nice. We woke up and showered for the first time. We thought our family had hot water but they don’t so we are going to have to get used to cold showers. After we showered we went on a walk with our 8 year old sister Gabriela who has been absolutely amazing at helping us with our Spanish. We walked down to the river from the road than walked back to the town up a mountain, great workout! Lunch was at 1 so we just talked with our host family until lunch which was lentils, rice and fish. The food is not bad our host mom is so giving she gives us a lot of food. It truly is amazing how these people have nothing and they give you everything they have. After lunch we came back to the house and fell asleep for about 3 hours the altitude and travel really wore us out. We are about to go to a pizza party with all the volunteers. We are excited to meet everyone! Tomorrow we are going to a fiesta with our host family where there is going to be bull fighting! We are very excited! As far as the language goes I already feel a little better about communication. I am talking to the children a lot and this is helping out incredibly! We have to run but the view from our window is several Inca ruins and the Andes mountains…..we have pictures but they do not even describe the view.

P.S. Our family is Catholic so we will be going to mass with them tomorrow!

LOVE AND MISS YOU

We made it!

Hello All!

We arrived safely in Ollantaytambo this morning after a looong trip from Indy-Miama-Lima-Cusco. We are both slightly overwhelmed, but really excited about the nest six weeks here. Our host family is wonderful and they have a great house. It is nothing like I expected, but will do just fine for the time that we are here. The altitude has been difficult to adjust to, but I 've heard it takes a couple days. The area we are staying in unbelievably GORGEOUS!!! We are surrounded by the Andes mountains and beautiful Inca ruins. We are going to catch up on some much needed sleep tomorrow and try to get acclimated to the surroundings. We feel very blessed to be here and have said a few times throughout the day that we are REALLY happy that the other one is here. Our Spanish is a little rusty, but I am confident that we will pick it up before we leave. Time to head to dinner, but we will update again soon.

Please keep us in your prayers,
Kelly
